STEM Showcase Overview:
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
(STEM) showcase. This showcase is similar to what we have called a
Science Fair in the past. But we are trying to encourage more
projects in technology, engineering, math, robotics, experimental
designs, etc which is the reason we have renamed it STEM instead of
going with the traditional Science Fair name. For this
assignment students will complete inquiry projects that will help
them gain a better understanding of scientific research methods.
This assignment is a requirement of all 7th grade students.
Students must work alone. There will be 11 core assignments
for the project that must be completed in a STEM journal.(This is a
level 3 project and is worth a B) Students can choose to be a
part of the STEM showcase in January, but this is not a requirement
for the project. (This is a level 4 project and is worth an
A.) While the project is meant to be an at home independent
project, your science teacher is available to help guide you
through the process.
We are hoping that we will have kids move on to present at the
Regional STEM showcase at PLU in March and beyond, as well as
having our top projects represented at the Bethel Art and Tech fair
at the end of January.
Projects are to be inquiry based which will allow students to
explore the answer(s) to a question. Projects are NOT to be
models of the solar system, volcanoes, etc. All projects must be
approved by teacher and parent BEFORE work is started on it.
