Welcome to 9th Grade
Family and Consumer Sciences 2009 - 2010  Hello and welcome to a new and exciting year at Cougar
Mountain Junior High. My name is Michelle Hamilton and I am the
Family and Consumer Science teacher. This school year is the
start of my 23rd year in teaching. I have now entered an era where
I am teaching my former students' children. Wow! has time in
education gone by fast.
Family and Consumer Sciences was
formally known as "Home Economics". On your students schedule
it is known as "Independent Living". As the times change, so has
the name.
This class is designed to teach or review skills that are essential and beneficial when becoming an independent young adult. The goal of this class is to prepare students with the opportunity to learn living skills which are necessary to lead productive, balanced, and healthy lives. These skills will help students learn how to solve problems, make wise choices, enhance critical thinking skills, communicate effectively, and become more aware of the importance of balancing health and nutrition with exercise. This class is a graduation requirement for all four high schools in the Bethel School District.
