Dear Pathfinder Parents,
Thank you to those of you who were able to
attend our Veteran's Day assembly on Tuesday. The Pathfinders
did an outstanding job singing the Armed Services Medley. It
is always so touching to see the veterans stand with great pride
and humility while we honor them.
We are beginning new units in Everyday
Mathematics. The second-graders will be learning to use
number models to solve story problems. The third-graders will
also be learning methods and models involving multiplication
stories. At home, please help your child practice counting
back change. For instance, if a candy bar cost $.79 and
he/she paid with a one-dollar bill, then they could count back as
follows:
Answering questions using complete sentences is
a second and third grade goal. You can help support this task
by encouraging complete sentence responses at home. For
example, if you happen to ask your child what movie they would like
to watch, don't accept just, "Transformers". They should be
able to say, "I would like to watch Transformers." Most
of the writing assignments now require complete sentence
responses. Please help your child edit, being careful not to
begin sentences with the words, And, So, But, Because or
Cuz. You can watch for these expectations on a TFK
homework assignment this week.
This Wednesday, November 18 is a late-arrival
day. School begins at 9:40 am and breakfast will not be
served at school.
Homework for week of November 13:
* Practice your level of MMF.
* Complete nightly homework.
* Read each evening for at least 20 minutes.
* Practice handwriting, A-Z.
