What We
Will Study
Our first semester will include units on (1) the process of science, (2) cells and energy, and (3) genetics and evolution. Our second semester will include units on (3) genetics and evolution (continued), (4) ecology, and (5) anatomy of plants and animals. Class Expectations 1. Be ready to learn. When the bell rings be in your assigned seat and be working on your bellwork. 2. Bring your science journal, pen/pencil, paper, and planner to class everyday. 3. Pay attention when the teacher is talking and during class discussions. 4. Be on task. Safety Safety is very important in the science
classroom. Students need to follow safety rules. No rough housing
is allowed. This includes no running and no throwing
anything!
Homework This class has limited homework BECAUSE students are expected to work in class. If students do not finish their work during class time, then they have homework. Students are expected to show a basic understanding of the learning target by earning at least a C- (70%). Any score below that is an “I”. “I” means incomplete and the expectation is that the student will continue working on the learning target until at least a “C-” is reached. “I” work needs to be made up as soon as possible (within two weeks!) before the end of each quarter. An “I” for the course grade at the end of a semester becomes an “F”. Please use
“Family Access” to monitor you grades!

Earth Science Syllabus 2009 - 2010
Earth Science
Syllabus 2009 – 2010 Welcome to Earth
Science! I look forward to getting to know you during the coming
school year. In this class we will explore our world by learning
about rocks and how they form, volcanoes and earth quakes,
astronomy, and the weather. We will conduct experiments using the
scientific method. Our studies will include observations,
experiments, reading,writing, discussion, and
analysis.
What We
Will Study
Our first semester will include units on (1) the process of science and (2) physical geology like rocks and volcanoes. Our second semester will include units on (3) astronomy and (4) the weather. Class Expectations 1. Be ready to learn. When the bell rings be in your assigned seat and be working on your bellwork. 2. Bring your science journal, pen/pencil, paper, and planner to class everyday. 3. Pay attention when the teacher is talking and during class discussions. 4. Be on task. 6. Who
is teaching me science?
I was a wildlife biologist for 14 years before I switched careers to become a teacher. I studied birds, bird migration, plants, and habitats in seven states (WA, OR, CA, ID, HI, MI, SD, MA) and Canada, the Caribbean, and Panama. I returned home to the northwest to help my grandma.
