Course
Overview... These
classes will enable students to refine their writing, reading, and
communications skills in accompany with the district's EMC assigned
literature and 'Step Up To Writing' curriculum. Students will
learn how to write multi-paragraph essays of varied types
(narratives, compare-contrast, expository) and lengths for their
grade level. In addition, they will be able to identify topic
sentences, transitions, examples/evidence, and concluding sentences
consistently throughout the year. Also, students will learn
the differences between 'Fiction', 'Non-fiction', and
'Dramas/Plays'. Students will work individually, in pairs,
and groups with in-class activities. Finally, each student
will create and update their portfolio throughout the school
year.

Grading
Policy...
- All work will be organized into each student's
folder. Work will be self-assessed by student with
supervision by staff.
- Late work
is accepted throughout each grading quarter with full credit
allowed as long as the student can demonstrate mastery of
concept/learning target.
- The main focus
in these classes is aimed at the individual's needs and abilities,
and being able to demonstrate growth and meeting State
Standards.
- Student-Involved Weekly Progress
Reports are tied to FJH's Advisory time in which students
participate in assessing their own performance, ability, and
goals/targets in their learning through self-reflection, rubrics,
and/or feedback.
